Recovery Is Training: A Practical Guide To Rest Days

What to do on the days you are not lifting — and why doing nothing is only half the answer.

The adaptation you want happens between sessions. A rest day is not an absence of training, it is the part of training where the results are banked.

Move, but do not load. Twenty minutes of walking, a full mobility flow and some easy breathing keeps blood flow high without adding fatigue.

Use heat and cold deliberately. Ten minutes of sauna followed by a two-minute plunge, repeated twice, is enough. It is a stressor, not a spa treatment, so treat it like one.

Eat and hydrate the same as a training day. Most people under-fuel rest days and then wonder why the next session feels heavy.

Sleep an extra thirty minutes on rest days if you can. It is the single highest-return recovery intervention available to you.

And take one complete rest day per fortnight. Truly complete. No steps target, no mobility homework, no guilt.
